Projekt
The human right to adequate food vs. corporate social responsibility and voluntary codes of conduct from the perspective of ethics
- Beschreibung
Background. This project considers how ethics shapes science and policy related to food and nutrition security. Specifically, students will participate in research to assess contemporary questions about the similarities and differences of human rights based approaches vs. 'multi-stakeholder' or ‘public-private partnership’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Among other questions, the two approaches will be assessed in terms of classical ethical questions of whether the approaches promote “the good life” or respect for the well-being, autonomy and/or justice for individuals and groups. The project will unfold in the context of the masters-level course, Ethics of Food and Nutrition Security and the 430B research project, “Gender, Nutrition and the Right to Adequate Food.
Student responsibility. Participating Humboldt Reloaded students will work in English to: a) conduct literature review; b) help to frame this debate more clearly; c) interview leaders engaged in the human right to adequate food and of food and nutrition security; d) prepare written reports; e) prepare an oral presentation to the Ethics of Food and Nutrition class.
