Humboldt reloaded Summer School 2019

World population growth, finite resources, environmental pollution, a decline in species biodiversity, and climate change are pressing matters of our time. Bioeconomy is a promising concept, which could provide a solution.  It aims to base our economic world on bio-based raw materials. Through a bio-based economy, paths are opened for new products, new technologies, altered production processes and new production sites.

Which is the right transition path into a Bioeconomy of the future? What does it take to make Bioeconomy a success story? How will our consumption patterns be affected or is it the other way around? Which biological components are the most promising ones? And: where are resources to be found and produced best for a bio-based economy?

In other words: How is Bioeconomy going to shape our world?

The answer to this question requires interdisciplinary knowledge and a systematic approach. In our interactive lectures, we bring together the interdisciplinary and international expertise from all participants with that of our lecturers from various fields of science and industry. Workshops in a lecture hall filled with bio-based materials and world maps are intended for a hands-on investigation. We complement the 8-day agenda with trips to companies and the agricultural experiment stations of the University of Hohenheim.

Students worldwide from the fields of economics, agricultural, natural and social sciences are addressed with this concept.
